Three Popular Digital Scrapbooking Software Packages: A Review
Thursday, March 4th, 2010
Digital scrapbooking programs provide many benefits. Instead of working in a vacuum, without a plan, these software programs allow you to choose from an endless selection of templates to help you create your scrapbook. Many of these software packages also allow you to import digital photos and scanned images without having to upload and re-format graphic elements. Unlike traditional scrapbooks, scrapbooks created using digital software can be shared online and used in various formats such as DVD, video CD and iPod. Digital scrapbooks can also use options that are unavailable offline, such as audio and video.
Given the large number of available programs, choosing a scrapbooking software package can be confusing. To determine which program is most suitable for your individual needs, you need to consider the number and variety of design features and tools provided, what kind of media the software allows you to use in your scrapbook creations (images and graphics, video and audio), the various formats it allows you to use for your finished scrapbook and, of course whether the software is easy to use if you are not a technologically savvy person. Also remember to check the usefulness of the help and support feature of the software.
In this post we briefly review three of the most popular digital scrapbooking software packages. To read more detailed reviews of the top digital scrapbooking software products in 2010, please go to TopTenREVIEWS.com
Memory Mixer (by Lasting Impressions for Paper Inc.) is a simple-to-use software package and its QuickMix tools feature give you the option to create digital scrapbook pages rapidly. The wide assortment of digital embellishments (fonts, backgrounds, colors etc) makes it easy to create all kinds of page designs. In addition to printing your completed scrapbook pages, you can also share your creation online as a JPEG, put it on a CD or DVD or make use your scrapbook to make a movie. This software program also has many excellent photo editing tools and support different media platforms (scanned pages as well as web links, video and audio). MemoryMixer even includes a number of design features free of cost and the program is PC and Mac compatible.
My Memories Suite 2.0 by StoryRock, Inc. is a user friendly software program (especially the easy-to-use icons on the control panel) that is particularly flexible. This digital software package offers a very wide range of output possibilities, meaning that you can publish your scrapbook creations online, burn DVDs, CDs, publish pages in PDF format, create slide shows, iPod movies, greeting cars, professionally published hard copy books etc. My Memories Suite also has a feature allowing you to include music or video into your scrapbooks and the software can be used with both P C and Mac working systems. The software’s help and support tools include tutorials as well.
Digital Scrapbook Artist 2 (by Serif (Europe) Ltd.) is suitable for digital scrapbookers who are beginners as well as for the more experienced user. Its blending and stenciling options make it particularly well-suited for artistic scrapbook creations. Unlike Memory Mixer and My Memories Suite, the Digital Scrapbook Artist software program does not allow for burning CDs or DVDs and does not provide a photo-book publishing option. You also cannot add video or audio to your scrapbook pages using this software.
